Abstrakt EN:

The changes of the technological conditions have had a tremendous impact on the way the state communicates with a citizen. The main channel of the communication - internet - has been a great challenge for many governments all around the world. Higher efficiency and lower costs of the functioning of public administration make the worldwide network one of the main sources of improving public finance. The first part of the paper depicts the indices showing how often electronic public services are used. Then, the situation of Polish e-government is presented. In the last part there are several examples of e-government initiatives given. There is an attempt made in the final part to present some other usages of the internet in the area of e-government.
