The subject of the survey was the localization of the food-processing industry in the southern regions of Poland. The analysis included the total output of the food industry and the value of the purchase of farm products, including the crops under contract, and the value of food-stuff sales. The survery on the localization of the food-processing industry was conducted with the help of the "R" coefficient. The analysis of the coefficient made it possible to specify the areas which constitute the raw-material base for the food-processing industry, on the one hand, and the consumer areas, on the other, The survey pointed out that those regions do not coincide, which shows that the location of food processing factories is faulty. The "R" coefficient can be used in practice, and it should be a pivot when the decisions are made concerning locations for new factories. (original abstract)
