abstrakt angielski The article presents outcome of the research project "Technological foresight for sustainable development of Malopolskie Voicodship", which was realized by Cracow University of Economics, Cracow University of Technology and AGH University of Science and Technology from September 2006 to May 2008. It was the first attempt in the region to implement the idea of alternative strategic foresight. The main result of the project was to formulate the alternative scenarios of development in selected areas, which play the key role in the region. The first step of the work was to cover the preparation of diagnosis and administer questionnaires. The work was done in following research areas: economic development, infrastructure, natural resources and new materials. Additionally, the regional authorities received some materials, which may be supportive while the decision-making process of strategic planning. The problems with realizing the research process were mainly connected with the lack of financial resources to pay respondents who filled-in the questionnaires; another problem was also the low participation of representatives from firms and leading institutions from the Malopolskie Voivodship in working groups. An important aspect of the research project was connected with integration of representatives from three Cracow universities and the regional authorities. The article presents a hypothesis concerning the different possible directions of development in selected research areas. Special attention was paid to the field of economic growth, where the work was done within the following thematic groups: human capital, high education, innovation, metropolitan development as well as the investment attractiveness of the region.
