Abstrakt EN:
Grand challenges such as pandemics, wars, climate change, inequality, and aging populations are complex issues that require unique policies to create effective solutions. Their scale and complexity are greater than ever before, and present unprecedented difficulties. Traditional approaches to policymaking need to be revised to meet these challenges. Therefore, innovation in this area is crucial to bring about effective change. Social innovation is one of the recently identified types of innovation that plays a vital role in addressing and resolving complex societal problems known as grand challenges. The public sector has a significant role in promoting and facilitating social innovation to address grand challenges. Their actions should be evaluated based on the specific challenges they aim to address, weighing the pros and cons of their efforts in the context of these challenges. This chapter discusses the crucial role of social innovation in dealing with grand challenges and the role of the public sector in promoting and facilitating social innovation.
